This is the deal:
In High School my graduating class was a bunch of muscle car enthusiasts especially our auto shop.
Gathering up our senior auto shop class consisted
of my 85 Firebird 5.0L with a 5 speed, (3)
Mustang 5.0L a few other firebirds and a Trans
Am. This was a great time.
|
After High School I had
to ditch the firebird because I had many engine
problems and transmission problems to boot. But I
kept the dream alive.
|
Here it is 6 years
since I graduated and I just picked up a 99 Trans
Am that is loaded with an LS1 and a 6 speed that is
awesome! I just started to put some 3000 miles on
her, and she is a real blast.
I have named her
appropriately Great White. Modifications
are fun.
Update 8/15/99
|
Well I have finally
broken into 13s with the car. She has just over
7000 miles now.
At Englishtown for the Mustang
Vs. F-Body day I ran a 13.9 @ 105.
A few weeks later I ran (3) 13.6x on a cooler night at Island
Dragway.
To see the progression of ETs just follow the links.
|
Now I have seen the bottom of the 13s with a 13.012 @ 109.98.
This has come at the expense of the cheap Goodyear RS-A tires.
Update 11/20/00
|
This spring I finnally picked up some
take off wheels from SLP and some Nittos for them. I
also got 4 new replacements street tires GSCs from
SLP. She now has 25K on the clock. Now I just have
to figure out how to launch on the nittos! Installed the
first set of KVR carbon fiber brake pads.
Update 4/20/01
|
Just got her on the Chassis dyno at
the F-Body Nationals 2001. 8/4/2001. Got the whole
thing on Video!
306 Rear Wheel HP and 319 Rear Wheel TQ!!!
The original window sticker says '305 Crank Hp' what a joke,
sionce the car will loose 15-17% of the power thru the drive
train, which means that it is making near 350 HP / 366 TQ up
front. What an awesome engine.
Update 8/20/01 |
Ok now the year is 2002 and it looks to be a promising year for
cash and trophies...Just before
the end of last year I had Spoon lower control arms and Pan Hard
Rod installed along with a Torque arm bushing.
For Christmas I received an SLP Driveshaft loop and the Hurst
Roll Control (line locks). James and I just installed them
over the weekend and I tested this out at Englishtown.
Bottom line, what a great way to get consistency.
Burnouts are now no problem with the line lock on the nitto drag
radials. These drag radials are hooking more than the
clutch can take (launching now @ 4000 and flooring it). My
ETs are hanging around 12.9x - 13.0x and I believe the clutch is
the limiting factor on my ETs since it won't get below 2.0x but
there is now spin after the launch and my 330' and 1/8 show
this. The suspension work seems to be just what the car
needed with the tires too.
While at Englishtown this weekend I got a trophy for winning 2
rounds of eliminations at the Mustang vs. Buick / Pontiac day.
That makes 1 trophy from e-town for each year I have been racing
except 99. Hopefully I can get a few more this year!
Update 3/16/02
|
| Here we are in 2003 and this is a busy
year for sure! Elyssa and I got married on July 4th and
the Trans Am even got mention during the ceremony.
I was also able to include the car in the pictures and the
video from the reception! After we got back from
our honeymoon I started a clutch project and replaced the
stock clutch with 48K with a GM Z06 Clutch kit that included a
replacement flywheel, and slave cylinder. For the first
time this year I actually won $ at the track for an
event.
Update 8/26/03 |
| The year is now 2004 with 55K and
there have been many improvements made. Christmas 2003
and birthday I received a Magna Flow Cat Back exhaust system
and a Diablo Sport Predator computer tuning and diagnostics
hand held. A tough day at the track drag racing has
brought on some valve train replacements. The valve
train upgrade included all new pushrods, hydraulic roller
lifters, all new Manley stainless steel valves, a valve job
and Patriot dual spring kit with titanium
retainers. To finish out the upgrade I replaced
the stock timing chain with a Roll Master dual roller timing
chain. I have skipped a bunch of events at the
track so that I can enjoy the car for the summer.
Update 7/29/04 |
| Big Changes this year in 2005!
Now she has 63K on the clock and some
more HP is being made. Christmas 2004 and birthday I
installed new KVR heavy duty nickel cadmium coated front brake
rotors and new KVR carbon fiber pads. (The old ones were
only 1/2 done but the rotors were warped. I saved the
old as a spare set of pads) I installed Pace Setter long
tube ceramic coated headers and a Texas Speed catted Y-pipe to
the front of the engine. I also installed a TSP 224/224R
114LSA cam with TSP hardened pushrods and LS6 ported oil
pump. Now it just needs to be dyno tuned by East Coast
Supercharging!!!
